Bip Bip
This Christmas season is now upon us, and as we move into December I see my calendar filling up pretty quickly with parties, get togethers and dinners. However, there is a darker side to all of this: finding a date. Now my first question is, why do I need a date to go to these events? I have a difficult time finding people to do stuff with me so trying to find a "date" is much more difficult (and for me often times it is pretty much impossible). Someone at work is planning a nice get together, which I hope to God I'm able to make it because I really want to party with them, but the organizer was like and you have to bring a date. Why? I don't have anyone to bring. Bring someone you like. I don't like anyone. And the person I want to get to know better is out of the country I think. So there isn't anyone? Um.... guys I like tend not to like me back. Wouldn't it be awkward to invite a guy out and everyone else is part of a couple or married?
But it's not just me, there are other people too. One of my friends has gone through the same thing at her workplace. I think she spoke to her social committee asking why she was only allowed to bring a partner and requested that she be allowed to bring a friend. I think the social committee's reaction was along the lines "well I guess you can if you don't have a date". I guess?
I don't understand why there is this pressure to have a date. Sure if I knew there was someone who was interested in going out for a meal and doing some dancing with a bunch of strangers I'd ask him, but honestly? I hear a lot of no's in my head already. I feel quite comfortable going alone and would actually prefer it so I don't have to worry if the other person is having a good time.
